Ben Hutt becomes Evergen's new chief executive

Australian renewable energy startup Evergen has appointed a new chief executive officer and managing director, Ben Hutt, to lead the company through its next growth phase.

Mr Hutt comes from Slingshot, an Australian company that runs corporate innovation programs where he was chief program director and entrepreneur in residence.

In this role, he advised startups and “scale up companies” by connecting them with clients such as Qantas, Lion, HCF and Caltex through its accelerator programs.

He has also held roles at Macquarie Group and PwC Consulting, as well as recruitment services companies.

Evergen’s outgoing CEO and co-founder, Emlyn Keane, will remain on the board.

The appointment of a new CEO coincides with the company closing a capital raising led by majority shareholder AMP Capital, which also provided Evergen with seed funding when it was launched in 2015 alongside the technical backing of the CSIRO.

Australian founded software company Switch Automation has a new vice president of operations, Patti Mason.

She joined the Denver team in March 2019 after serving as the executive director of the US Green Building Council. Founded in Sydney in 2005, the company maintains an office there but is headquartered in Denver in the US.

The team continues to grow, according to a company spokesperson, and is approaching 50 people worldwide, including mechanical engineers, software developers, marketing experts, sales executives, data scientists, product managers, project managers, sustainability gurus and QA professionals.

The company integrates building data, systems and equipment to give its clients deeper insights into site and portfolio performance.

Zoe Neill has left her role at Cundall to take on a role as senior ESD consultant at EMF Griffiths, an Australian owned building services and sustainability consultancy providing ESD, mechanical, electrical, fire, vertical transportation, acoustics and associated engineering services.

Deloitte in Melbourne is looking for a social sustainability manager, the Parramatta Light Rail Project need an environmental and sustainability manager and the Indigo Shire Council want a coordinator environment and sustainability.
