AWARDS: 4 December 2009 – Paddington Reservoir Gardens, designed by JMD Design in association with Tonkin Zulaikha Greer and the City of Sydney has been awarded the 2009 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects NSW Medal in Landscape Architecture.
Other winners were were:
- Ballast Point designed by McGregor Coxall
- Camperdown Public Domain by Turf Design Studio, Jeppe Aagaard Andersen and Tinka Sack
- Redfern Park Upgrade by Spackman Mossop Michaels
“These projects are all excellent examples of the high quality of work being produced and have been chosen from an extraordinary group of new urban projects that Sydney landscape architects have been involved in recently. Sydney has entered into a vibrant period of outstanding landscape urbanism, ” AILA said in a media statement.
Jury chair Gay Williamson: “The Paddington Reservoir Gardens, like all good poetry, fills the heart and nourishes the soul. It is a ‘touchstone’ for urban design and place making – not just in its execution but in the creative process of the design collaboration.”
City of Sydney Councillor Robert Kok represented the Lord Mayor of Sydney in receiving both the Medal in Landscape Architecture for Paddington Reservoir and the Award for Design for the Redfern Park Upgrade. Both of these exemplar projects indicate the driving force the City of Sydney plays in developing the new era of outstanding urban work.Lands
