19 November 2010 – The price of car parking and its availability has a powerful, yet under-appreciated, impact on our transport patterns according to the organisers of a seminar on 4 November 2010, to highlight the latest, evidence-based practice on parking policy. The Institute for Sensible Transport brought together over 120 transport professionals to the Melbourne Town Hall for a car-parking policy seminar, The High Cost of Free Parking, to discuss improved methods of dealing with this important issue. The seminar featured leading thinkers on car-parking strategy and sustainable transport, including Professors Donald Shoup of UCLA and Graham Currie and William Young, Monash University. Professor Shoup’s car parking innovations are now being implemented in San Francisco and many other parts of California. For those who where unable to attend Podcasts and PowerPoint presentations are available here.
