Executive director of the Banksia Environmental Foundation Graz van Egmond said that the awards have evolved into recognising those who can transform sustainable ideas into business practice.

“The Banksia Awards were created 22 years ago to recognise and reward Australian ingenuity in achieving positive environmental and sustainable change,” Mr van Egmond said.

“Last year’s winner of the Origin Gold Banksia Award, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses, demonstrated how sustainable solutions can translate to smart business practice.  They developed a sustainability strategy that slashed power use by more than 60 per cent, using heat recovered from baking, and pioneered Victoria’s first hybrid-diesel delivery truck.”
