Karen Cain, a local business owner in the Latrobe Valley has been announced as the new chief executive of the Latrobe Valley Authority.

The LVA was setup by the Andrewsโ€™ Labor government to assist the Valleyโ€™s surrounding communities cope with last weekโ€™s closure of the Hazelwood power station.

Ms Caine has owned a commercial beef farm with her husband for the past 21 years, worked as an educational leader, and served as a member of the Gippsland Regional Managers Forum.

Premier Daniel Andrews said โ€œKaren Cain is an outstanding servant of this proud region. She brings experience of both government and industry โ€“ and most importantly, an unwavering commitment to the Latrobe Valley.โ€

According to the government, the LVA has worked intensively with the community, helping more than 260 families affected by Hazelwoodโ€™s closure.

Ms Cain replaces Kylie White who established the LVA.
