IN BREIF: Although emissions are tracking downwards in the electricity sector, new research from RepuTex shows that emissions from Australia’s largest industrial facilities have surged to 60 per cent above 2005 levels.

Although these companies account for a whopping 60 per cent of Australia’s emissions, RepuTex executive director Hugh Grossman said the industrial sector has “been largely missing from the national emissions reduction challenge”.

Emission from the oil and gas sector have also shot up to 621 per cent above 2005 levels.

Road transport has also grown to 122 per cent above 2005 levels, aviation is 54 per cent above and mining emissions are 41 per cent above.
