Romilly Madew

Green Building Council of Australia chief executive Romilly Madew has been presented with a leadership award from the US Green Building Council.

The International Leadership Award was awarded last week at the annual Greenbuild Conference held in Washington DC.

USGBC chief executive and founding chairman Rick Fedrizzi said Ms Madew had an “open mind, innovative spirit and infectious passion for sustainable development”.

“Romilly’s long-term leadership of the green building movement in Australia, and her clear success with Green Star, have been instrumental in helping us advance global market transformation of the building industry,” Mr Fedrizzi said.

Ms Madew has been chief executive of the GBCA since 2006. She was also the inaugural chair of the WorldGBC’s Council Development Committee, and currently sits on its board of directors.

“Romilly has been one of the WorldGBC’s most enthusiastic participants for almost 10 years,” WorldGBC chair Bruce Kerswill said. “She has been a passionate champion for green building at a global level and has actively supported the development of GBCs in several other countries – she well deserves this award.”

Ms Madew said she was “thrilled” to receive the award.

“With a steadfast commitment to collaboration and innovation, we now have a building industry that leads the world in sustainability. This award is not just for me, but acknowledges the Australian industry’s achievements on a global stage,” she said.
