2 April 2014 — Multinational design and engineering consultancy Hyder Consulting has acquired Brisbane-based Flinders Group, a planning, environment and project management services firm.
Flinders has 70 staff, and specialises in services through the infrastructure lifecycle from initiation to planning and delivery, working across the energy, environment, mining, property, transport, power transmission and water sectors.
“We are thrilled to welcome Flinders Group to the Hyder team,” said Greg Steele, Hyder’s managing director for Australasia. “This acquisition allows Hyder’s team to extend its services into the crucial planning phase of projects, and adds to our credentials in the energy, environment, transport and mining sectors.”
Hyder, which has operated in Australia for 70 years and currently has around 750 staff in Australia and 4000 consultants worldwide, has worked on major projects including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Tower Bridge in London and Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building located in Dubai.
It has offices in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney, and now through the acquisition Darwin and Rockhampton.
Shane McDowall, managing director of Flinders Group said his company’s planning and project management experience would be a “good fit” for Hyder’s strong engineering capability.
“There is already clear evidence of our strategy working with the companies combining last week to win a major contract with Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads,” Mr McDowall said.
