NATURE FIRST & RESILIENT CITIES: Professor Sebastian Pfautsch has built a formidable reputation as the nation’s foremost expert on urban cooling, specialising in Sydney’s west, where the temperatures are more extreme, and the region is slated for a huge increase in population.  As Professor of Urban Management and Planning at Western Sydney University, he’s also listed in the top 2 per cent of scientists worldwide (Stanford University and Elsevier).

In an exciting new project, Delta HQ Sebastian is working with colleague Dr Aso Haji Rasouli to build a research platform that works with sophisticated technology to design solutions for housing that respond to their environmental and heat context to create resilience for occupants.

It will blend building design with natural sciences, plant sciences and ecosystem research to find ways that humans and nature can “better coexist”.

It will use reality capture, remote sensing and scanners to deliver detailed “digital twinning” of buildings and their environment.

“The technology for reality capture, and then for digital twinning, and what is called computational flow dynamics, or fluid dynamics, has exploded in the last 5 years. It really has advanced and is now at a level where we can use this to very rapidly work on projects, optimising them for climate change impacts, particularly.”

Will it work?

Come and join the QandA with Sebastian and other leaders breaking new ground with technology in the fight for resilience.
