15 May 2013 — Woods Bagot has appointed Darren Bilsborough as director of Urban Innovation.
Mr Bilsborough, a director of the Green Building Council of Australia, said urban prosperity in Australia was being challenged by the side-effects of success, including traffic congestion, resource scarcity and escalating housing costs.
“The enormity of the cost impact on business and communities is only now being realised and is not sustainable. These are hard but not intractable problems,” he said.
“We can create exciting and functional mixed-use buildings and ‘people friendly’ business precincts to address these impacts and deliver key outcomes which should include improved productivity, competitiveness, liveability and sustainability, and a development industry that enjoys lower cost finance through lower risk, improved processes and higher value assets.”
Mr Bilsborough is an adjunct professor of Sustainability at Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute.
He is a director of Cminus which offers services in two areas – sustainable places and sustainable spaces. The company was incorporated to take advantage of the complimentary skillsets of the directors to offer a unique range of products and services.
Mr Bilsborough is also a director of the rIGAR Group, which works on projects to formulate strategy and governance frameworks around risk management.
From 2007 to 2011, he was director of sustainability with Parsons Brinckerhoff and responsible for development of policy and strategy to position the company as the leading consulting firm in the delivery of sustainable infrastructure solutions in the Australasia region.
