Residents of Bulga, a small town in NSW’s Hunter region, are fighting against mining giant Rio Tinto’s attempt to expand its Mount Thorley Warkworth “super pit” mine to within 500 metres of the town.

The effects of the expansion are so great that the NSW Planning Assessment Commission farcically suggested the entire town be relocated to make way for the mine.

Heading the campaign against the mining giant is John Krey, who says if the expansion goes ahead it will spell the end for the town.

In this video, Mr Krey explains the history of the mine and the fight against its expansion.
