The NSW Government recently announced the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap that will transform NSW’s electricity system over the next two decades. The Roadmap will result in $32 billion of new investment in the electricity system. The Government has established a Roadmap Implementation Taskforce to deliver the program which is seeking more than 20 government policy, program and project delivery professionals to work on this significant reform. More than ten Senior Policy/Project Officer roles and ten Policy/Project Officer roles are immediately available.
Successful candidates will join the Taskforce to work on a wide range of workstreams implementing the Roadmap including:
- designing competitive tender processes for renewable energy generation, long duration storage and firming.
- delivering Australia’s first Renewable Energy Zones.
- establishing a transmission efficiency test and cost recovery mechanism.
- developing the detailed regulatory framework.
- advising and supporting critical stakeholder engagement work.
- establishing and supporting independent advisory groups and delivery bodies.
- procuring and managing professional management services.
About the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap
The Roadmap is the NSW policy framework that will deliver five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) across the State to bring new generation, storage and transmission online before the scheduled retirement of traditional coal-fired power stations. The Roadmap is legislated through the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020. Our work ahead is expected to:
- attract $32 billion in private investment in regional energy infrastructure by 2030.
- bring 12 GW of new generation and 2 GW of long duration storage capacity online by 2030 – the majority of this will occur in regional NSW.
- make electricity more affordable for NSW households and small businesses.
- reduce electricity sector emissions by 90 million tonnes to 2030.
- drive 6,300 construction jobs and 2,800 ongoing jobs in 2030, mostly in regional NSW.
About you
You are a skilled policy, program/project, communications/engagement professional who is passionate about energy/climate change issues and public service values, and are keen to be on the ground with us implementing this once-in-a-generation reform.
We are looking for professionals from diverse backgrounds to join the Taskforce. Your work will:
- develop and coordinate government policies, legislative and regulatory frameworks and advice on significant, complex and sensitive energy and climate change issues.
- deliver complex projects and innovative solutions to resolve issues that are significant to the energy sector, consumers, the NSW economy, as well as achieve long-term benefits for our environment.
- develop evidence-based concepts and analysis and communicate compelling rationales to stakeholders and communities.
- build strong partnerships across all levels of government, business, consumer groups as well as across inter-disciplinary sectors and forums.
