Brisbane Airport Corporation chief executive Julieanne Alroe has been announced as the new chair of the board of Infrastructure Australia. She replaces current chairman, Mark Birrell, who is retiring after four years in the role.

Ms Alroe has been a member of the board since 2014.

โ€œWith a career spanning aviation infrastructure, Julieanne brings deep experience in regulated infrastructure markets and in the financing and delivery of major projects,โ€ IPA chief executive Brendan Lyon said .

โ€œThe very heavy political overlay to the infrastructure debate needs another strong, resilient and independent leader for Infrastructure Australia, and Julieanne has all of these characteristics.โ€

Mr Lyon also praised Mr Birellโ€™s leadership of the organisation and said IAโ€™s priority list of major projects and its landmark Australian Infrastructure Plan had been โ€œoverwhelmingly endorsed and are a tribute to Markโ€™s vision and professional approach.โ€
