14 August 2014 โ€” Those interested in the future of Sydney are being given a chance to have their say with the Sydney Connected project, an online consultation launched by AECOM and Sydney Design Festival.

An online survey is designed to capture the big picture data about what matters to both residents and visitors regarding topics such as transport and open space through to social diversity, the development of urban precincts, caring for natural resources and protecting Sydneyโ€™s status as a global city.

Insights from the survey will be shared at an AECOM-hosted industry event on 28 August that will be attended by some of the key decision-makers influencing the planning of Sydneyโ€™s future development.

AECOM director โ€“ design, planning and economics James Rosenwax said Sydney Connected reflected the companyโ€™s commitment to engage with industry and communities to identify what cities need to flourish amid rapid demographic, technological and socio-economic change.

โ€œWe are increasingly seeing communities play a role in guiding decision-makers as they shape the cities they want to live in,โ€ he said.

โ€œAs Australia becomes more urbanised, the nexus between community and industry is becoming more important in defining the shape and composition of our cities, and for how people live, work and relax.โ€

In addition to the online survey, iPad installations will be available to complete the survey in Sydneyโ€™s Powerhouse Museum, and there will also be a one-day pop-up consultation on Saturday 23 August at the Rozelle Markets and EQ Village Markets.

AECOM held a similar people-powered event earlier this year in Melbourne, MelbourneNEXT.
