More than 1057 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity was installed in 2017, according to new data from the Clean Energy Regulator.
The figure is a new Australian record, improving on the previous 1035MW record set in 2012.
In total Australia now has more than 6000MW of installed small-scale capacity.
“Australia has the highest penetration of rooftop solar in the world,” environment minister Josh Frydenberg said.
“One in five Australian homes has rooftop solar and an increasing number of small businesses are making the most of the financial and environmental benefits of solar.”
The Clean Energy Regulator is predicting this year will be another 1000MW-plus year.
