Mirvac and CIC’s joint venture in the Queanbeyan area, Googong township, has become the first project in the NSW/ACT region to be awarded a 5 Star Green Star – Communities rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.

The project achieved credits across sustainable planning, design and construction, particularly in terms of its uptake of technologies including water recycling, energy planning and digital fibre to homes.

It is expected the township’s integrated water cycle management system, including a dedicated water treatment and recycling plant, will reduce potable water use by about 60 per cent compared with a similar-sized community.

On completion, the township is expected to have around 18,000 residents across five neighbourhoods that include local employment opportunities in mixed-use commercial hubs.
