Brisbane-based building services and engineering consultancy Floth’s 69 Robertson Street HQ has been named most sustainable commercial office at the World Green Building Council’s Asia Pacific Leadership Awards in Mumbai.

The Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance Award recognises projects that set new benchmarks for sustainability. Floth has previously been in The Fifth Estate for being the first project to get a six star NABERS Indoor Environment rating, and the first to meet the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council’s zero carbon definition. It was also the first project to get the Green Building Council of Australia’s 6 Star Green Star – Design & As Built v1.1 rating.

Floth ESD consultant Loreta Brazukas previously told The Fifth Estate the company aimed high regarding certifications “in order to be better able to inform clients, so we’re fully across [the tools] and giving the best advice we can”.

Energy modelling has shown the building enjoys a 53 per cent reduction in operational carbon emissions compared to a standard office. A solar system offsets 28 per cent of the building’s energy use, with the remainder offset through GreenPower purchase.

The GBCA welcomed the award.

“69 Robertson Street is an energy efficiency powerhouse – and we are delighted that Floth, a long-time member of the Green Building Council of Australia, has been recognised for its regional leadership in sustainable design,” GBCA chief executive Romilly Madew said.

“Floth understands that green buildings are not only better for the environment – they can also attract quality tenants, reinforce a company’s brand and future-proof its assets.”

Other winners were:

  • Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, India: Business Leadership in Sustainability category
  • Double Cove, Hong Kong: Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance (Residential) category
  • Construction Industry Council – ZCB, Hong Kong: Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance (Institutional) category

“Four nominations really pushed the boundaries on sustainability, and in the eyes of our judges stood out as true green building leaders,” WorldGBC chief executive Terri Wills said. “They have raised the bar for others to follow and are deserved winners of the awards.”
