From Anthills to Labyrinths: Design Insights for a Zero Carbon Future

Patrick Bellew, founding director of global sustainable design consultancy Atelier Ten and 2023 CTBUH recipient of the Fazlur R Khan Lifetime Achievement Award, will reflect on his four decades of environmental design innovation and leadership and the insights shaping a new generation of transformation at a public lecture in Melbourne’s Federation Square.

Patrick and Atelier Ten delivered their first project in Australia with their work on Melbourne’s Federation Square (1997 – 2002), and it includes their revolutionary design for the passive-cooling system known as “the labyrinth”.

Following his presentation, Patrick will be joined by an esteemed panel including Kerstin Thompson (Kerstin Thompson Architects), Samantha Peart (Global Head of Sustainability – HASSELL) and Jefa Greenaway (Greenaway Architects; Chair of Indigenous Architecture and Design Victoria), to be moderated by Prof Donald Bates of the University of Melbourne.
