Will Tait MC prepares for Building Run

A data art project is putting the energy performance of Melbourne’s commercial buildings under the spotlight as part of the Sustainable Living Festival.

Building Run, sponsored by the City of Melbourne and supported by Investa and Buildings Alive, is a video art project by artist Keith Deverell that takes data from a group of buildings’ energy performance and displays it in the form of a running race. Three athletes represent three commercial buildings in Melbourne CBD who are battling it out daily for first place.

“The Building Run is a friendly competition to show how office buildings fare in the daily race for greater energy savings,” chair of Melbourne’s environment portfolio Arron Wood said.

“We have set an ambitious target for Melbourne to become a carbon neutral city by 2020. This project is one of the many ways we are working with businesses, residents and government to promote greater energy efficiency.”

Building Run is being showcased on the big screen at City Square as part of Melbourne’s Sustainable Living Festival from 12.30-1.30pm until 14 February.
