28 March 2013 –The Smart Blocks program is seeking apartment owners, strata managers and facility managers to fill out an easy 10 minute survey, as part of a program to discover what energy efficiency opportunities may be available to them and guide them through the process of implementing them.

On average, residents of high-rise buildings use 25 per cent more energy per person than those living in detached dwellings.  Up to half of this energy use can come from common property such as pools, lighting and heating/cooling common in such areas as hallways, foyers and car parks.

Case studies have shown that by investing in energy efficiency, complexes could save the owners corporation up to 20-30 per cent in energy costs.

At the core of the program is an interactive online toolkit that will help apartment owners and their managers discover what energy efficiency opportunities may be available to them and guide them through the process of implementing them.

The program will officially launch in June 2013.
