The South Australian Government has released the draft terms of reference for its Nuclear Royal Commission for public comment.

The inquiry will examine the opportunities and risks posed by involvement in the nuclear fuel cycle, including enrichment, nuclear power generation and waste storage.

Premier Jay Wetherill said the government has no plans to retract from involvement in uranium mining, but that it had explicitly ruled out any use of nuclear for military purpose. He also said that in the draft terms of reference, the impact of the nuclear cycle on regional, remote and Aboriginal communities was a key consideration.

The inquiry is also to consider environmental impacts and risks.

The draft terms of reference are available here, with comments closing on 13 March.
