25 September 2013 — Standards Australia has published a world-first standard for smart grids.

Chief executive officer Colin Blair said smart grids had the capacity to make energy networks operate more efficiently by integrating users more effectively.

“This allows for greater reliability of power, reduced costs to produce, deliver and consume electricity,” he said.

The AS 5711 Smart Grids Vocabulary establishes common terminology for use in the electricity supply, electrical equipment, communications, appliance, consumer, government and other sectors involved in smart grids in Australia.
