25 September 2013 — AIRAH is developing a new HVAC&R training course aimed at providing graduate mechanical engineers with practical HVAC&R training in a building services environment.

The course will cover essential knowledge for graduates who are employed in consulting or contracting firms but have had little exposure to the industry before leaving university and joining the workforce.

AIRAH chief executive officer Phil Wilkinson said the initiative had been driven by the organisation’s aim to “close the skills gap” and its work around defining career paths for building services engineers.

AIRAH education manager Carolyn Hughes is the initiative’s project manager.

The course will run for about nine months, separated into two semesters, with the content delivered online. The first pilot will be tested in November and the complete course will start in April 2015.
