13 June 2013 — LJ Hooker has joined business think tank and advocacy group Sustainable Business Australia.

LJ Hooker’s head of sustainability Cecille Weldon said the company had been approached by SBA because of LJ Hooker’s initiatives such as its Liveability.com.au website – giving property owners and renters access to information about sustainability, and its 3P Program, which saved power, petrol and paper.

“SBA came to us and said, ‘What you are doing on a daily basis is not being done by other people,’ so we realised, because we walk the talk, we could also drive change,” she said.

“And we could share our ideas with others and they can share with us.

“I think SBA has a great team and helps people realise there are entry points for both small and large businesses into sustainability.

“It’s not just about the environment, it’s the bigger picture.”

Ms Weldon said the Liveability website had proven very popular with people even writing in to just compliment the newsletter.

“I have never had that before, you send out something electronic, and you know how many are being read, but to get that great feedback…

“The website was about starting the conversation and it’s totally working. And the feedback is also coming via our agents and our partners.”

And the “Ask the Expert” section, with questions answered by the Alternative Technology Association, was also proving popular, she said.

“I look forward to working with SBA chief executive officer Andrew Petersen on ways in which we can demonstrate how smart business practices can lead the way for Australians to participate actively in living the life they want, sustainably,” Ms Weldon said.

Mr Peterson said LJ Hooker was an Australian “real estate icon” that was actively participating in promoting sustainable living.

“Through initiatives like LJ Hooker’s Liveability.com.au website, property owners and renters are able to access relevant quality information about sustainability that can help to create a healthy, efficient and more comfortable home.

“SBA commends this initiative and sees it as an essential factor if Australia is to have a truly sustainable future.”
