Brief: 2 December 2010 – Engineers Australia’s National Congress has elected Professor David Hood as its deputy president for 2011. At the end of next year he will succeed Merv Lindsay as the national president for 2012.
Professor Hood is the founding member and current chair of the Australian Green Infrastructure Council but will step down from that position when he takes over the presidency. He is also a founding member of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council and a founding director of the Australian Council of Building Design Professions.
Professor Hood’s focus for 2011 will be on sustainability, population growth, biodiversity as well as reinvigorating Engineers Australia’s College structure, he said.
With Engineers Australia declaring 2012 the Year of Regional Engineering, Professor Hood said that he will also work on developing better support systems for regional engineers who are “enthusiastic but often feel unloved”.
