28 August 2012 — The $420 million Convesso Concavo is being touted as “Australia’s first residential high-rise tower to truly demonstrate that green design and good architecture can be synonymous”.
The latest kid on the block at Melbourne’s Victoria Harbour, the 32-storey twin tower development is being built by Lend Lease with Bates Smart as the architects and JJA as the building services engineers.
Convesso, 45,496 square metres, is due for completion this year while Concavo, 41,860 sq m, will open its doors in 2014. The two towers will be connected by a seventh floor skybridge.
On the smaller sustainability scale, each apartment will have in-home displays linked to smart meters to provide residents with live data on electricity usage and cost, water usage and cost, and CO? emissions generated through energy use.
That just landed Switch Automation, Lend Lease and Fujitsu Australia with a merit award in the Sustainability and Green IT category of the 2012 National iAwards for industry firsts including:
- First use of cloud-based residential energy monitoring
- First use of cloud-based home automation
- First residential use of GPON for building automation system (BAS) communications, telephone and broadband
- First GBCA 4 Star Green Star residential building in Victoria
Lend Lease Apartments general manager Ben Coughlan said the real-time feedback of how much electricity and water was being consumed at any one time made occupants aware of usage levels.
“(It) can help them make informed decisions about reducing their usage or moving to off-peak periods saving money, water and energy,” he said.
Other green features include Convesso being Australia’s first luxury high rise residential tower to receive a four star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
Concavo is aiming for the same rating.
The towers will consume 25 per cent less water than comparable sized buildings with the inclusion of water efficient appliances and fittings, and a large rainwater tank for landscape irrigation and swimming pool top ups.
Convesso prices range from $465,000 to more than $5 million while Concavo prices range from $495,000 to more than $3 million. Details: www.convesso-concavo.com.au
