3 July 2013 — The Qenos-AGL Altona cogeneration facility is up and running.

The state-of-the-art cogeneration facility, in Victoria, is the largest industrial cogeneration plant to be built in Australia in a decade.

Built, owned and operated by AGL, the plant produces up to 21 megaWatt electricity and 88 tonnes of steam per hour for Qenos, Australia’s largest polyethylene manufacturer.

The cogeneration facility is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production of polyethylene at the Qenos plant by 100,000 tonnes CO2-e each year.
