29 May 2013 — Amazon has revealed its new headquarters in Seattle will feature three 6000-square-metre plant-filled glass domes.

Joining the likes of Apple’s “spaceship”, Google’s Googleplex and Facebook’s Frank Gehry-designed West Campus, Amazon is using its corporate headquarters to flex its tech, environmental and financial muscles, hoping to pip Apple for the “best office building in the world” title.

According to the Seattle Times, the proposals, which were handed to Seattle City Hall’s design review board last week, state that the domes will have botanical gardens arranged around office areas, a canteen and lounge.

The domes will house five floors with shops on the ground and first floor, and office space on the second to fifth level.

Architects NBBJ have designed the domes.
