9 April 2014 โ€” The LEED certification tool has reached three billion square feet (280 million square metres) of certified space globally, the US Green Building Council has announced.

โ€œThis milestone is the result of leaders across our industry making the business and environmental case for healthy, sustainable buildings,โ€ said president, chief executive and founding chair of the USGBC Rick Fedrizzi.
A recent report by McGraw-Hill estimated that green construction would comprise half of all US construction and be worth $248 billion by 2016.

The USGBC says LEED is currently the most utilised green building program globally, with more than 150,000 sq m of commercial building space being certified each day.
