The Victorian Planning Authority has appointed lead director for urban renewal Steve Dunn to serve as acting chief executive, effective immediately.

Outgoing chief executive Peter Seamer said Mr Dunn had been “a key player in our organisation for many years and has a strong grasp of all the areas we work in”.

Planning Institute Australia Victoria president Laura Murray congratulated Mr Dunn, himself a former PIA Victoria president, saying: “This is a fantastic and well-deserved opportunity for Steve. More broadly it is a recognition of the appropriately front-and-centre role of urban planning in how we develop our cities and regions.”

The board is well progressed in finding a long-term replacement.

Mr Seamer, who had been in the role for 10 years, is considering numerous opportunities and is looking forward to continuing his interest in cities, without being in the busy CEO role.

“I think everyone at the VPA is proud of our achievements in helping make Melbourne and Victoria better planned, more affordable and liveable, and with a diverse range of business centres,” he said.

“I am pleased to be able to leave the VPA with the legacy we have created.”
