JOBS NEWS: Karl Fitzgerald leaves Prosper “to start something new”
Karl Fitzgerald has left his role as director of advocacy after 18 years at non-profit Prosper Australia, to start a community land trust advocacy group body, Grounded. The new organisation’s aim is to push for a community-oriented land ownership model that he claims will drive increased housing supply, while assisting the growth of sustainable communities.
During his time at Prosper, the self-described “renegade economist” was a passionate advocate for property tax reform, and came up with the innovative idea of looking at water use as a proxy for whether properties were occupied.
“My last report for Prosper drove home the point that the for-profit housing supply model is planned to fail. Therefore we need alternatives and the [community land trust] model shows great potential.
“Thanks to all the good people of Prosper and to all those who have helped me get to this point. It’s time to revisit my fave motto: ‘to keeping life interesting!’”
