The Sustainability Consultant will work across the 3 streams, applying technical skills and analytical frameworks to support the Sustainability team to provide design-led advice and to drive effective and ambitious integration of environmental, social and economic sustainability in the built environment.


  • Deep alignment with our values and an active interest in design and sustainability is essential for any of our people
  • A relevant qualification in Engineering, Sustainable Design or a related discipline is essential
  • A minimum of 12 months experience in a comparable role involving delivery of sustainability and/or engineering consultancy services
  • Experience project managing small scale projects with support from more senior team members
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of subjects such as circular economy (including LCA), urban development, ESD policy and assessment and / or climate adaptation
  • Strong software capability such as InDesign, Microsoft Office and project management software with an ability to learn new applications quickly
  • Industry accreditations / experience using frameworks and tools such as Green Star, Passivhaus, OPL, SDGs, eTool or similar
  • Great written and verbal communication skills and developing a strong capacity to understand and work effectively within the commercial parameters of project delivery
  • Ability to think logically, analyse and assess opportunities and risks and identify solutions and outcomes
  • Excellent time management skills and a collaborative approach to work


  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of subjects including energy and daylight modelling, passive design, water sensitive design, sustainable servicing strategies, materials and lifecycle assessments
  • Experience in use of modelling software, preferably including IES VEm FirstRate5 and Rhino
  • An ability to identify opportunities to continuously improve processes and practices
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • An understanding of design thinking principles and ability to understand and adopt a design-led approach to problem solving
  • A growing network of industry collaborators



  • Provide input into the internal business planning process


Provide regular updates on expected project milestones as an input into the financial forecasts


  • Provide content for social media, articles, advocacy, events, thought leadership, awards and the Credentials to the Marketing & Communications Manager
  • Work with the technical leads to deliver thought leadership pieces that align with our strategic direction

Professional Development  

  • Share insights and information with Our People to ensure we continue to grow our knowledge base and maximise delivery efficiency
  • Actively develop your own knowledge base and capability by participating in events, seeking relevant industry accreditations and undertaking formal training

Business Development

  • Build relationships with strategic partners and develop opportunities for work focused on integrated approaches to sustainability that enable communities and cities to thrive
  • Represent HIP V. HYPE at industry events

Project Management

  • With support, manage projects, integrating a technical, evidence based approach (and associated predictive measures) with vision and narrative
  • Assist in providing timely and accurate advice to clients throughout the project lifecyle
  • Support the management of integrated projects that add value across multiple scales, from the individual to the community, city and broader ecosystem
  • Assist with proposal drafting, budgeting and resource planning

Content Production

  • Support the delivery of client workshops and meetings with the clear goal of supporting productive process that achieves strong sustainability outcomes while meeting other project objectives
  • Assist in the research, analysis and specification of key sustainability measures and strategies
  • Report drafting, preparing client presentations, and contribute to workshop planning and facilitation
  • Identify, foster and lead opportunities to conduct research that encourages integrated approaches to sustainability, and development across multiple scales (from individual, to building, community, city and beyond)
