The Green Building Council of Australia has formed partnerships with the Green Building Information Gateway and Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark to progress Australiaโ€™s green building industry.

The GBCA said its partnership with the US-based GBIG, an online platform featuring data and case studies on green building projects around the world, would showcase Australiaโ€™s green building capabilities to global investors and decision-makers.

โ€œIn the era of โ€˜big dataโ€™, building owners and managers have more information at their fingertips than ever before,โ€ GBCA chief executive Romilly Madew said. โ€œGBIG brings all that information together in one database, and now includes Green Star-certified projects. This will make it easier for international investors to gain data, analysis and insights about high-performing green buildings in Australia.โ€

She said the partnership would โ€œenable GBCA members to showcase their contributions to Green Star-rated buildings and to outline their green building credentials to a global audienceโ€.

The GBCA said its other partnership โ€“ with GRESB โ€“ would advance reporting on environmental, social and economic performance in Australiaโ€™s real estate sector.

โ€œIncreasingly, investors are demanding reliable data on energy efficiency and sustainability to help guide their decision-making,โ€ Ms Madew said. โ€œThe Green Building Council of Australia is determined to play a role in the global discussion around benchmarking on behalf of its members, and to ensure Australia maintains its position as a global leader in sustainability.โ€

GRESB assesses the environmental, social and governance performance of property funds around the world. In 2014, GRESB covered 637 funds representing $2.1 trillion in property value.

The move follows a partnership between GRESB and the UK Building Research Establishment, responsible for the BREEAM building rating tool.
