South Australian tourism company Segway Sensation SA has been given the all-clear to operate segways around Adelaide’s major tourist precinct, highlighting key attractions such as the Adelaide Oval.

The tours will operate along the Torrens Linear Park between the weir and Frome Road, taking in other major attractions including the Convention Centre, the Riverbank bridge, Adelaide Festival Centre and Adelaide Zoo.

The State Government has enabled the tours by changing regulations under the Road Traffic Act to allow for segways to be used in a gazetted area under controlled conditions.

The change to this regulation was flagged as part of the Simplify Day Bill, which was introduced to State Parliament on November 15 in an effort to reduce red tape for South Australian businesses.

The Adelaide City Council is also supporting the segway tours with a 12-month Park Lands commercial business licence.

Segway Sensation SA has been operating segway tours for the last two years at Seppeltsfield winery in the Barossa Valley and is looking to expand to other tourism hotspots including beachside suburbs.
