15 June 2011 –The International Organisation for Standardisation’s release today (15 June) of its Standard ISO 50001 on energy management systems could have a positive impact on about 60 per cent of the world’s energy use, according to its developers.

ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 162 countries, one member per country, with a central secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland where it will also launch the standard on 17 June.

An ISO statement said the standard would provide public and private sector organisations with management strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve energy performance.
