22 October 2013 โ€” Always dreamed of exploring the Antarctic? Dream no longer.

Air New Zealand has launched a global search for an environmental enthusiast keen to share the wonders of the frozen continent with the world.

โ€œAntarctica: No Ordinary Place, No Ordinary Assignmentโ€ will take the winner to the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand to team up with National Geographic photographer Jason Edwards before flying south to the frozen continent for two weeks.

Mr Edwards, an Australian environmental enthusiast, will accompany the winner for the whole journey, capturing the adventure via photography and blogs and tweets from the ice.

Air New Zealand chief executive officer Christopher Luxon said the successful candidate would live at New Zealandโ€™s Scott Base research support station in one of the most fragile and special places on earth and help draw worldwide attention to global environmental issues and the scientific research underway in Antarctica.

โ€œThe best suited candidate will have a passion for the environment and want to play a role in building awareness of the efforts we all need to make to better protect the world we live in,โ€ he said.

โ€œStrong communication skills are a must along with a healthy respect for the difficult operating conditions in Antarctica.โ€

Mr Luxon said launching the competition had been made possible with the support of Antarctica New Zealand, the New Zealand Antarctic Research Institute and National Geographic Channel.

โ€œWe have formed a terrific partnership with these three organisations to draw global attention and interest onto the fragile environment that is Antarctica and the role we all have to play in helping protect not just it but the world we live in,โ€ he said.
