Pittwater Council has placed its draft Learning for Sustainability Plan on public exhibition.

The draft plan outlines a number of actions to improve sustainability in the local area.

Pittwater mayor David James said that the plan would help guide Council and residents in making informed decisions about leading a more sustainable lifestyle.

He said the Council and the local community had defined sustainability as โ€œdevelopment that improves the quality of life, both now and in the future, in a way that maintains the ecological processes on which life dependsโ€.

โ€œAs a community we have many environmental programs already in place including those that focus on saving energy and water,โ€ said James.

โ€œThis plan will offer further clarity on how we take further steps to reduce our carbon footprint.โ€

Some of the outcomes that the draft plan recommends include:

ยท improved access to high-quality learning for sustainability for all Pittwater residents

ยท better training for those delivering learning for sustainability

ยท increased research and evaluation of effective learning for sustainability

ยท increasing the number of people actively participating in a creating a sustainable future.

The plan will be on exhibition from 28 March to 30 April 2009. The draft plan is available for viewing via the link below or Pittwater Councilโ€™s customer service centres at 1 Park Street Mona Vale and 59A Old Barrenjoey Road Avalon.
