Tony Rees

Brisbane City Council’s sustainability agency, CitySmart, has announced director Tony Rees will take over as chair following the retirement of Jim McKnoulty.

Mr McKnoulty is the founding chair of CitySmart, having steered it for more than five years.

A CitySmart release said that under his leadership the company had delivered projects valued at over $25 million, working with 40 corporate partners, engaging over 120,000 residents and securing a development partner for Brisbane’s iconic Smart Energy project.

“I want to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of Jim who has brought genuine passion and smart business governance to the company and without his significant commitment of time and energy CitySmart would not have delivered the value and outcomes for the city and made such a real impact on sustainability for Brisbane residents and businesses alike,” chief executive Megan Houghton said.

Mr Rees is the managing director of Groundworks, a specialist in landscaping, erosion and sediment control, revegetation and rehabilitation solutions and a long-term Brisbane resident “who shares the CitySmart vision of partnering with industry to drive innovation through collaboration and make a difference to Australia’s sustainability agenda”, Ms Houston said.
