Urban Taskforce chief executive Chris Johnson

Former managing director and chair of Stockland Peter Daly has been appointed chair of the Urban Taskforce.

Mr Daly was unanimously elected as new chair at the recent Urban Taskforce annual general meeting.

“Peter Daly has a wealth of experience in the property industry as managing director of Stockland for 10 years from 1990 and then as chairman of Stockland for a further five years,” Urban Taskforce chief executive Chris Johnson said.

Two deputy chairs were also elected: Peter Spira of Meriton and Alan Linz of Rebel Property Group. KWC Capital Partners’ managing director David Tanevski was appointed secretary treasurer.

Mr Daly said he was honoured to have been chosen as chair.

“I have observed the excellent contribution the Urban Taskforce has been making to debate on the planning and growth of Australian cities with many positive proposals,” he said. “It is important that industry groups contribute ideas as well as critique the planning and procurement processes their members operate within. I look forward to a stimulating time ahead.”

Mr Johnson acknowledged the contribution of outgoing chair Noel Hemmings QC, saying he had been a “steadying hand for the Urban Taskforce over the last five years”.

“His wise counsel will be missed.”
