The Australian Construction Industry Forum has appointed Norman Faifer as chair. He replaces Ian Pedersen, who has held the role for the past two years.

Mr Faifer is the immediate past president of the Australian Institute of Building, and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Building, Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia, and the Resolution Institute.

He has been in the building and construction industry for more than 40 years, and currently works across the sector providing building consulting, superintendent, assessor and certifier services.

“As a representative to ACIF over a number of years, Norman has demonstrated his broad experience and deep understanding of the industry and the relationships between different parties,” ACIF executive director James Cameron said.

“Now as chair of ACIF, Norman is well positioned to use this experience to benefit the 1.1 million people working in our industry, and the rest of Australia that utilises the assets our industry creates.”

Mr Faifer said he looked forward to working with members of ACIF and its government and industry partners to continue to improve the productivity, safety and profitability of the industry.

“Our industry is undergoing significant change, with international and domestic market forces as well as technology and process change demanding new approaches from all of us,” he said.
