Carbon market expert Sara Gipton has been appointed the new chief executive of Australia’s leading forest certification organisation, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC Australia).
FSC Australia is a registered charity and national office of the global non-government, non-profit organisation FSC International. It promotes responsible forest management practices through multi-stakeholder standard setting and an internationally recognised certification labelling program.
Ms Gipton is a climate change policy, carbon markets and corporate sustainability leader, with previous roles including CEO of Greenfleet.
She will drive the organisation’s five-year plan that outlines a vision for “healthy forests supporting healthy communities” and includes a number of key outcomes that aim to deliver on standards development, stakeholder engagement, increased brand recognition, advocacy and membership growth.
FSC Australia chairperson Susie Russell said Ms Gipton brought the necessary qualifications and experience now required in the role to achieve the new strategic focus.
“Under Sara’s leadership, FSC Australia will focus on diversifying its membership, engaging stakeholders across the supply chain and empowering consumers to use their purchasing power,” she said.
