Julia Cambage has been appointed as chief executive officer of the Australian Institute of Architects.
Ms Cambage joins the architecture profession’s peak body from youth charity and mentoring organisation TRY Australia, where she was chief executive officer for almost six years.
Ms Cambridge has also held senior positions at Procurement Australia and Family Business Australia.
She was involved in a number of sustainable enterprises during her time with TRY Australia, including a social business converting shipping containers into affordable, small footprint housing called TRY Uncontained.
“Our society, our communities and the architecture profession are rapidly changing and with this comes the opportunity to challenge the status quo and strengthen our ties within the building and construction industry to effect meaningful change across the sector for the safety and benefit of our communities,” Ms Cambage said.
The appointment follows the controversial departure of Jennife Cunich from the position.
