Growth in demand for transport and urban realm design solutions has seen UK-based Maynard move into the Australian and New Zealand markets with offices in Melbourne and Auckland.
The company has 10 years in transport design solutions, particularly around wayfinding, including signage guidelines for Dubai International Airport, consultation on network-wide wayfinding for Shanghai Metro, and delivering a multi modal wayfinding system for Transport for NSW.
Associate urban designer Kate Pleban is heading up the Melbourne office, where for the past six months she has been working as part of a contractor-led consortium bidding on the Melbourne Metro project.
Ms Pleban, an Australian, has come back following two years working in London, and said she was excited to be working in Melbourne.
“Melbourne is a dynamic place that is continuously growing and evolving,” she said.
“We are fortunate to have such a multi-faceted city that immerses itself deeply within culture and the arts. Its reputation as the ‘the world’s most livable city’ for the past seven years is testament to this.
“However, the continual growth of wider Melbourne has begun to put a lot of pressure on the transport networks and it has now reached a tipping point where major investment in public transport infrastructure is critical. With so many projects now occurring across the transport and public realm sector, this is a really exciting time to be in the design industry in Melbourne.”
In Auckland associate and industrial design sector lead Guy Hohmann will head up a new studio at Wynyard Quarter, offering wayfinding, industrial design and information design services to clients.
“Due to Auckland’s relatively small scale, it is agile, and with its ambitious local government and SuperCity initiative, it has the scale to make transformative projects happen in a way not seen since before 2010,” Mr Hohmann said.
“This is translating into an incredibly exciting time, as we look to add depth to the exceptional quality of life that Auckland already affords.
“Being in Wynyard gives us the chance to be surrounded by a constant stream of exciting developments in the urban realm.”
