Brookfield Multiplex chief executive John Flecker has been announced as the new president of the Australian Constructors Association, following the retirement of Lendlease’s David Saxby.
Mr Flecker thanked Mr Saxelby for his commitment to the ACA over the years as a director and then president.
“David Saxelby has had a distinguished career as leader of a number of Australia’s major construction companies and has been responsible for a significant number of Australia’s iconic construction projects,” Mr Flecker said. “He has been associated with the ACA as a director since 2003, and we expect that David will continue to have an involvement with the industry.”
Mr Flecker also welcomed the appointment of Fulton Hogan managing director Nick Miller and Laing O’Rourke managing director Cathal O’Rourke as vice presidents.
He flagged changes to how the ACA would pursue changes to how its members operated in relation to major projects.
“We recently released a report on mega-projects that identifies a number of major improvements that can be made to the way large projects are undertaken,” Mr Flecker said.
“The Mega-Projects Report identifies that better development and management of projects could release billions of dollars for additional infrastructure, and provide more beneficial and sustainable outcomes for the community. The ACA has commenced a program of engagement with Australian governments to work with them to implement the improvements identified in the report.”
