There’s still signs of movement in the jobs market despite coronavirus conditions slowing recruitment in most industries.
Arcadia Landscape Architecture has set up shop in Melbourne, with a new team led by Principal Nelson Gomes.
The landscape architecture studio, which already has offices in Sydney and Brisbane, has hired Duyen Nguyen, Veronica Carrasco and Michelle Thomas Zacharias to work for the Melbourne team.
Ms Nguyen will support Gomes in a leadership capacity as an associate. She has left her role as a senior landscape architect at Hassell to take the new position.
The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment has bolstered its environmental leadership, with Dr Paul Grimes appointed coordinator general environment, energy and science.
Dr Grimes left his job as head of the Victorian Public Sector Commission earlier this year.
He’s had a long career in the public service, including as secretary of the federal Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
He’s also been associate secretary in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, deputy secretary in the Department of Finance and – most famously – secretary of the Department of Agriculture.
Valentina Petrone has a new role at WSP as associate property specialist, sustainability and waste.
Ms Petrone has worked in sustainability for about 14 years, including at Encycle Consulting, a group of waste, recycling and resource efficiency professionals.
An architect by training, she’s worked at a number of firms, including Hames Sharley in Perth.
She’s also been involved in a number of educational and mentoring programs, including as an engineering student mentor for the University of Sydney’s Dalyell Unit “Building a Sustainable World”.
