Smart Urban Villages has positioned itself for the development and financing of its first eco-village project with the appointment of Nicole Gerschel as a Sydney principal and Toby Daniel as director, finance & investment, also based in Sydney.
Ms Gerschel has extensive experience in the community, social and affordable housing space gained in the UK. This included public-private partnership projects to deliver affordable housing.
She told The Fifth Estate one of the reasons she is excited to be part of the SUV enterprise is neither Europe nor Australia have managed to incorporate both affordable living and affordable housing in a way that is “replicable, scalable and creates community cohesion”.
Ms Gershel also holds another current role outside SUV as a project leader for Ku-ring-gai Council, working on the Activate Ku-ring-gai town centre renewal initiatives.
Mr Daniel is also an executive director of ADR Capital, a partner in Kalpara Property Group and has previously held senior executive roles in the finance, capital-raising and investment advisory space with CBRE and Jones Lang LaSalle.
He holds a masters in accounting from the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and a bachelor of commerce from the University of Adelaide.
This brings the team to four people working across three states, with co-founder Ben O’Callaghan based in South East Queensland and SUV’s other co-founder Rolf Von Behrens based in Melbourne.
