Fremantle councillor Dave Coggin has been appointed Fremantle’s new deputy mayor following a special meeting of council last Thursday.
The position had been made vacant following the resignation of former deputy Josh Wilson, who resigned to contest the federal seat of Fremantle in the upcoming election.
“While it’s very sad to see a person of Josh’s calibre standing down, we understand his reasons for doing so and wish him well on the campaign trail, which will clearly take up a lot of time in the coming weeks,” Fremantle mayor Dr Brad Pettitt said.
“Dave is a very capable, experienced and highly respected member of council and I look forward to working with him in his new capacity as deputy mayor.”
To fill the vacancy left by Mr Wilson, Fremantle will hold an extraordinary election at a date to be confirmed with the Western Australian Electoral Commission.
