The ROLE

The Managing/Principal Consultant will provide leadership to team members (including senior and junior Waste Consultants) who all work remotely to deliver projects. The position can be part-time (0.8 FTE) or full-time role and can be based from your home or co-work space in Perth  with the ability to visit client sites within the Perth metropolitan area and potentially travel to regional areas or other states. 

Key responsibilities will include (depending on skills and experience):

  • Project lead on various projects, supporting and guiding project team and liaising with clients, collaborators, local governments and key stakeholders.
  • Managing a team of consultants to deliver projects on time and budget.
  • Delivering standard and bespoke projects, according to agreed scopes of work, including activities such as research, analysis, report writing, facilitation of stakeholders, presentations and client liaison.
  • Reviewing technical reports, fee proposals, documentation and calculations for quality assurance, accuracy and professionalism to ensure provision of exceptional service to clients.
  • Overseeing and prioritising workload, troubleshooting barriers to successful project delivery, managing and reassessing timeframes, budget and resourcing.
  • Being key point of contact for clients, consulting with, and updating, clients on project progress and contractual obligations.
  • Driving continuous improvement into processes, systems and templates to deliver high quality outcomes aligned to Encycle values and strategy.
  • Business development and winning new work from both new and existing clients.
  • Reviewing contractual documentation for new projects and negotiate terms.
  • Maintaining awareness of policy and legislative developments, latest treatment technologies, operational considerations for waste management, market trends and issues facing client-base to drive strategic planning and business development.
  • Acting as a key ambassador for Encycle, by attending networking functions, liaison with industry, presenting at conferences and building relationships with relevant stakeholders.

About YOU

You will have expertise in waste management and experience leading a project team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with a strong appreciation for current and emerging government policy direction. As a strong and inclusive people leader, you will have the ability to manage and develop team capability through collaboration, whilst delivering exceptional service to clients.

Ideally you will possess:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the environmental sector, with a proven track record for delivering multiple, complex, waste management projects
  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science/engineering or a related discipline;
  • Project management training and/or qualifications;
  • Continuous professional development, including keeping abreast of policy and procedural changes, new technologies and economic principles;
  • Strong knowledge of waste policy development, with sound understanding of scientific basis, technologies, behaviour change and economic principles
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to manage a remote team with dynamic and ever-changing priorities and to foster a positive team culture, encouraging people through collaborative working and identifying and developing skills;
  • Clear, concise and accurate technical report writing style with the ability to communicate complex concepts and information effectively;
  • Strong business development capabilities through positive working relationships with existing clients and networking skills to build relationships with prospective clients;
  • A continuous improvement mindset, seeking opportunities to develop systems and templates to deliver high quality outcomes and achieve project goals; and
  • A solid understanding of relevant sustainability rating tools for the built environment, including Green Star.
