The Fifth Estate is excited to announce we’re holding our very first Surround Sound, in Perth next Tuesday. And we’ve reserved tickets for the first five readers who contact us.
Thanks to our fantastic co-lead sponsors: LandCorp and Leighton Properties; supporting sponsor, Norman Disney & Young and Surround Sound sponsor: Aurecon, which is hosting the event in its new Green Star offices in Hay Street.
Guests will include some of the leading people in the sustainable built environment and many decision makers who will be influential in shaping its future.
The Surround Sound builds on last year’s Sustainability Salon and ebook for Perth and WA – taking some of our guests from the salon, adding some more great names, and placing them in front of a bigger audience.
The whole event is designed for maximum engagement, Q&A style, but different. We’ll have “soapboxes” scattered throughout the room and roving microphones. So that guests will feel supremely comfortable to easily jump up on a soapbox, ask questions of the panellists, or make a comment. As long as it’s only 60 seconds.
Our MC is ABC Television presenter and environmental scientist Josh Byrne.
Panellists include: Senator Scott Ludlam, The Greens; Kerry Fijac, LandCorp; Michael Barr, Leighton Properties;Darrel Williams, NDY; Ryan Keys, MRA; Joe Lenzo, Property Council Dr Brad Pettitt, Mayor of Fremantle; Debra Goostrey, UDIA; Tim Urquart, Lend Lease; John Carey, City of Vincent mayor, Professor Peter Newman, Curtin University; Carly Barrett, Open House Perth
We know everyone can’t get there. So we’ve designed a quick survey to work out what people in Perth and WA believe are the biggest opportunities and challenges in sustainability. We’ll try to cover as many of these issues on the night or in follow up articles on the website.

The Surround Sound will feature as the lead article in our next ebook, Greening the West Part II.
