From Treasurer and Member for Werribee Tim Pallas:
Twenty new properties will be purchased or built and up to 50 properties leased to support those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Wyndham.
Treasurer and Member for Werribee Tim Pallas today announced a $15 million investment in H3 Wyndham Alliance to help more than 1700 people doing it tough in the Wyndham area.
It will include the purchase of 12 one-bedroom units for long-term rough sleepers and construction of eight self- contained units for young people, including young parents at risk of homelessness.
The funding will help provide access to sustainable housing for the time a person needs while providing wrap around services to support those who need a greater level of assistance, including family violence support, youth support services, mental health, drug and alcohol counselling, legal and financial help.
Wyndham is currently the fastest growing local government area in Victoria and in need of housing and homelessness support.
Established in 2007, the H3 Wyndham Alliance is a partnership of agencies representing health, housing and homelessness in the Western Melbourne area, bringing together different agencies to work in an integrated way.
The Alliance’s response aims to take into account the need to address housing vulnerability along the spectrum of housing needs, from immediate housing crisis through to early intervention.
The announcement is part of the Andrew Labor Government’s record $109 million homelessness package announced in November – providing targeted support that helps people get back on their feet.
